The New York branch of the ICGC church is the first North American ICGC branch started and officially recognized by the Headquarters in Accra.
It started as a result of the good work by some old Baiden Powell Memorial Hall ICGC members who found themselves in the United States of America, precisely The Bronx, New York. Not that there were no churches to attend, but that, they missed that divine personal experience that characterized ICGC church services. They therefore decided to start a branch of ICGC in the Bronx, partained after the worship experience they enjoyed back at Baiden Powell.
Their first meetings started in the living room of one member. This was all in late 1997 and early 1998.
By November of 1998, the Church started meeting in a gym in Parkchester, Bronx. At the gym the number started to increase as God added to the church.
By this time a request had been sent to the ICGC Headquarters for a pastor.
Eventually in 2001 God blessed us with the arrival of Pastor Owusu who was assigned to the New York Church.
Since the waiting for a pastor had been long and agonizing, some members gave up and left the assembly. With the arrival of a Pastor therefore, our numbers started picking up, but it was gradual.
In 2003 we had to leave the gym due to change of ownership of the building. We found an Apostolic church that was willing to share their location with us. We were there for a while. The church at this location grew to a sizeable number.
Prior to us moving to the location above, under the leadership of the Pastor, this branch of the church was registered with the state of New York.
In 2004 we found a Baptist church that agreed to allow us to use part of their premises. This was a big place and it looked like we were there to stay.
By the end of 2004 we had hosted two major conferences with so much success.
By this time our Pastor with support from this local assembly had initiated several church planting activities and had successfully planted a church in Elizabeth-New Jersey, Boston-Massachusetts, energized covenant family meetings in Hartford-Connecticut into a church, setup covenant family meetings in Ohio and Atlanta.
Before the end of 2005 however, we had to leave the Baptist church. Finding a location for service was difficult at this time.
By the Grace of God we found ourselves sharing the church premises of a Full Gospel Church. With all the experience of being a tenant imbibe from moving from place to place. We fellowshiped at this location until we moved to our current location which is at 4500 Park Avenue.
We started fellowshipping at 4500 Park Avenue beginning 2006.
After a couple of month into our current location, the door opened for Pastor Owusu to launch the Atlanta assembly. A church he had planted earlier on and had grown into a vibrant church. Pastor Prince then became the host pastor of this local assembly.
By the grace of God we are growing steadily.
